We summarised the ETHEREUM ROADMAP so you don’t have to read it or try to understand it.
THE MERGE – Move from PoW to PoS (Executed on 15th of September). Although the merge into the beacon chain has transitioned successfully, not all factors have been completed yet.
THE SURGE – This subcategory works on the scalability of the Ethereum network, in the form of roll-ups. The key is to watch protodank sharding EIP 4844 as the first stage, which will then evolve into full sharding.
THE VERGE – This helps improve its statelessness and helps make the network more decentralised by making running nodes easier. This should allow us to run nodes through our mobile phones without the need of having 32 ETH. This could halve to 16 ETH or even a quarter to 8 ETH.
THE PURGE – Cleaning the blockchain’s store of data to enable transactions to be validated and executed faster. To view and access previous transactions, we will rely on cDatabases like etherscan or dDatabases like The Portal Network to verify what previous transactions have occurred.
THE SPLURGE – Traditionally described as the fun extras which will happen over time. However, Vitalik recently mentioned this is equally as important in improving the network’s speed and efficiency.
Vitalik mentioned that this is expected to take around 15 years to fully complete. If all of these points are able to be achieved, Ethereum is expected to remain stable from there on. Any adaptions are left responsible to L2s.
